CREW OF THE TAHITI.
ASSISTANCE TO BE GIVEN.
SHIPWRECK RELIEF SOCIETY’S DECISION.
A meeting of the executive of the Shipwreck Relief Society of New Zealand was held yesterday afternoon. Mr E. C. Hazlett presided, and there were also present Captain Fraser, Messrs D. E. Theomin, Bruce Anderson, S. E. Sleigh, W. Clarke and F. Tyson. The chairman explained that the meeting had been called to consider applications for assistance which had been received from members of the crew of the Tahiti.
As the crew was signed on in New Zealand and the vessel was lost while on a voyage between New Zealand and a New Zealand dependency, it was decided to afford relief, and arrangements have been made with Captain Hall, Superintendent of Mercantile Marine, Wellington, to act on behalf of the society to afford assistance to those members who require it.
