When Shamrock V sailed across the Atlantic she was accompanied by Erin. This ship takes the place of the famous Erin, of beautiful lines and pleasant memories which was sunk in the Mediterranean while engaged as an armed patrol vessel in 1916. The Erin was prevousily named Albion, and was designed by Sir William White, and built by Messrs Swan, Hunter, and Wigham Richardson in 1905 for the owner, Sir George: Newnes newspaper owner and publisher. The measurements of Erm are: Tons, Y.M., 1260; L.W.L., 240 ft; B„ 34ft; turbine engines; three screws.
