SMOKING IN MINE.
FIXE OF £2 IMPOSED. GREYMOUTH. January 13. Ronald Thomas Henderson, who did not appear, was fined £2 with costs on a charge of possessing a prohibited article when entering the Brunner mine on December 12. George Smith, mine manager, said that Henderson was seen to leave the bathroom with cigarettes in his possession. The defendant was searched without result, but the' manager was not satisfied, and searched again at the termination of the shift, when a partly-smoked cigarette fell from Henderson’s hat. It was not a case of the man having an old butt in I liis pocket. Witness thought the man had been smoking in the mine.
