A large stack of hay was destroyed by fire on Mr Thomas Henderson's farm. Runciman. near Pukekohe, as the result of spontaneous combustion. The stack contained the hay from the best hay paddock on the farm, and was about 33 feet long. 15 feet wide, and 15 feet high. A party of men was engaged for several days building it. It had just been completed and fenced, and the party was sitting along one side partaking of afternoon tea when the hay commenced to smoulder, spontaneous combustion having occurred within the stack. The party made efforts to smother the outbreak, but it had too strong a hold, and the stack was slowly consumed.
