UP-TO-DATE DRESS NOTES.

(Special for the Otago Witness.) Garments of all kinds, like shoes, need to have occasional rests. There is no real economy in wearing one dress for weeks without change. It is not healthy for mind or body. Fresh raiment is cheering for the wearer and for those about her. Even though she may be one whom • “ dress doesn't interest/’ she will note what mother or her hostess is wearing. Husbands may not appear to notice what dress one has on, but colour appeals to men. So women should look rosy and bright in the morning in gay colours. Clothes last longer for not being in constant use. It is a curious fact that inanimate articles are like human beings in that they are much better and more able for their task if allowed a rest now and again. To be always in the “same old thing ” is depressing, besides leading to the wearing of unsuitable garments for the hour and the place. A dress or ensemble delightful for one occasion will be quite unfitting for another.

If you are married and not able to afford a regular maid, and you have been visiting, do not rush home and prepare a meal in your best afterrioon frock. Give yourself time to change into your house frock. There are few who can prepare even the lightest meal and keep their dresses spotless, while covering
