Lady Salmond, who has a great many friends in the south as well as in Wellington, writes very cheerfully to a friend, and says that she has done some delightful visiting about in England and Scotland, where she has many relatives and old friends. She was in London on Armistice Day, and had a seat in Westminster Abbey, and was deeply impressed with the beauty and simplicity of the service held. All was of the simplest, the visit to the tomb of the unknown warrior was part of it, and Princess Beatrice was the first to place a wreath, and was followed by many notables. All were finished to the moment when Big Ben chimed 11. and then the silence of the vast concourse was marvellous —there was absolute!}’ not a sound except the whirr of the wings of pigeons, which were frightened and agitated at the sudden cessation of the noise they were so accustomed to. It was all deeply interesting. Lady Salmond writes of the beauty of some of the old towns and cathedrals she has visited, and only mentions peaceful autumn weather, which she was thoroughly enjoying. She was going to Scotland for a couple of months, thence to the Continent for a visit, and after that she thought of settling down for a ijhile either in Newcastle or London.

Miss Shepherd was greatly pleased with the gift, and with the kindness which prompted it. Although she is not any seeker after publicity, Miss Shepherd has consented to her wedding service, which will take place at St. Paul's pro-Cathedral, being broadcasted in order that the many children from North Cape to the Bluff, who have been her friends tthrough radio, may be with her in sympathy on this important occasion. Miss Shepherd has been a most successfsul organiser of the “Children’s Hour” from 'Wellington, as many tokens of affection testify.
