INTENTIONS OF MAIN HIGHWAYS BOARD. Interesting informations in regard to the intentions of the Main Highways Board in connection with the unsatisfac tory condition of some of the roads lead ing into Dunedin is contained in a letter from Mr F. W. Furkert (chairman of the board), who writes as follows in reply to repeated representations of the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce:— ' Since your last letter was received it has been reported to the board that a considerable improvement has been effected on the Bruce County section of the Dunedinclnvereargill main highway. The Clutha County length has not been improved, but the board is in negotiation with the council, and hopes that a considerable improvement will be shown be fore the coming winter. “ North of Dunedin f he board has arranged to take over the maintenance of about five miles from Waitati to the top of the Kilmog Hill, while the Wai kouaifi County Council is concentrating on the remaining portion of the highway in its territory. “ In the Taieri County reconstruction work is in hand, and this is now proceeding satisfactorily. About five miles have been resurfaced, and are now ready for the laying of the asphalt surface. Tenders have been let for four miles, and the constructor is now setting up his plant. “ The board hopes that there will be a considerable improvement in the main highways north end south of Dunedin at an early date.”
