A working bee of settlers in the Steward settlement was held a few days ago, and a good supply of water was turned from the Waitaki River into the main race, which has been dry for some time (reports the Timaru Herald). It has been discovered that some persons below the intake have been cutting the race and allowing the ‘water to pass over their property, regardless of the requirements of the settlers further down. ■ The Steward Race Board has issued a warning that this selfish practice must not be continued.
