INDUSTRIAL AFFAIRS.

SECOND CONFERENCE DEFERRED V ELLINGTON, February 27. The Minister of Labour (Mr W. A. Veitch) stated to-day that it was not considered necessary—at any rate at present—to call an industrial conference as convened last year, but owing to the pressure of the unemployment problem, Cabinet had decided, as already announced, to set up an Unemployment In vestigation Committee. Things were developing rapidly in regard to industrial matters under the policy of the new Government, but the Government wished to see what emanated from the Unemployment Investigation Committee before it did anything in respect to the second industrial conference proposal. The name of the Government Statistician (Mr Malcolm Fraser) should be added to the personnel of the Unemployment Investigation Committee as published yesterday. The full constitution of the committee is thus:—Messrs H. D Thompson, Under-secretary of the Immigration Department; F. W. Rowley, Secretary of the Labour Department; and Malcolm Fraser, Government tatistician (representing the Government) ; W. D. Hunt and T. O. Bishop (representing the employers), and J. Roberts and R. M Brine (representing the employees).
