CIVIC RECEPTION AT WOODVILLE. WOODVILLE, Alarch 2. The Alinister of Public Works (Air E. A. Ransom). was accorded a civic reception this afternoon by a representative gathering of citizens. The Alayor (Air H. P. Horne) extended a welcome to the Alinister on his first visit to the district since his elevation to Cabinet rank. He paid a tribute to his services as a private member and as a Alinister. Air B. H. Norman spoke on behalf of the county. Later the Alinister received two deputations. The Chamber of Commerce requested improved facilities with respect to the entrance to the station, relief from the shunting nuisance at the Al'Lean street crossing, the erection of a slot telephone in the town, and the subdivision of estates adjacent to the borough. The Rabbit Trust Association asked that consideration be given to an amendment of the Rabbit Nuisance Act, pointing out anomalies in the present rating system. Air Ransom promised to bring the matters before the respective Alinisters. He expressed thanks for the congratulations extended to him. The Alinister referred to the change in Government, and said that New Zealanders were a sporting people, and as such were generally prepared to give the Government a fair chance.
