THE REDPATH SHIELD. OTAGO DEFEATS CANTERBURY. CHRISTCHURCH, March 1. By a margin of 22 points the Otago representative bowling team defeated Canterbury this afternoon in the annual contest for the Redpath Shield. The match, which consisted of eight rink games, was played on the Canterbury Club’s green in unpleasant conditions. The weather was dull and overcast, and a bleak easterly wind blew across the green, but although rain fell during the morning it kept off during the afternoon. The green was heavy as a result of the rain earlier in the day, but was otherwise in good order. Otago won five of the eight games and scored a total of 194 points to Canterbury’s total of 172. The play was of a fairly high standard, and was watched with keen interest by many spectators. Since the match was inaugurated in 1921 Otago has won the shield six times, while Canterbury was successwul in 1923 at Christchurch, in 1927 at Christchurch, and in 1928 at Dunedin. As a result of Otago’s win to-day the shield will now be taken .to Dunedin by the team. Scores:—
