—Twickenham (England) Council is to buy a piece of riversidn land for £lO,OOO to save the view from Richmond Hill. ■ A new course of action in the direction of nominating candidates for election to the Dairy Control Board was taken on Saturday week (says the Southland Times), when' at a meeting of dairymen a dairy producers’ welfare league was formed and nominations of prospective candidates were * received. Four nominations were received, and the names of these candidates will be submitted to suppliers of the Southland dairy factory, companies for consideration, and a ballot will be taken at a further meeting to be held on March 16. The successful candidate will go to the poll for the election of a. Southland representative in June next, when Mr T. M. Timpany’s term expires. The four prospective candidates, each of whom'consented to nomination, were Messrs John Dunlop, John Fisher, J.'W. Gunn, and O. E. Neiderer. The meeting was attended by close on 109 directors of dairy factory companies and suppliers. In voicing a strong criticism of the board, Mr Dunlop stated that the present members were merely living on the reputations of their predecessors, and he maintained that there was dry-rot in the ranks of the present members, some of whom had been financed by the mercantile interests. The length of time that the board would continue to function in its present manner depended on what the dairymen would do at the election in June next. There were many points on which the present board could not hope to retain the confidence of the dairymen. One was the matter of information gathered by the board and not retailed to the producing companies. He was sure that great discrepancies would be found in these figures, and the selling companies would gain valuable information of where to place sales if the facts were made, available.
