The “ hands across the sea ” sentiment will be given effect to by the fraternal Christmas and New Year greetings which the Ashburton Volunteer Fire Brigade will send to the Ashburton Volunteer Fire Brigade Devonshire, England (reports the Guardian). The greetings take the form of a scroll, on the top corner of which is the seal of the Ashburton Borough Council, and on the corresponding corner a map of New Zealand. The names of the superintendent (Captain T. P. Barber) and the members of the brigade are inscribed, together with their rank and number of years of service. The message has been signed by the Mayor (Mr R. Galbraith) and the chairman of the Fire Brigade Committee (Mr F. W. Seldon).
