The returning officer had to give his casting vote in the Southern Maori election when the official count of the votes was concluded to day. By the preliminary count on the day of the election Mr Tuiti Makitanara was shown as leading Mr E. T. Tirikat'ene by one vote. At the official count to-day they were shown to have received exactly the same number of votes.
