A DEFIANT COMMITTEE. CHRISTCHURCH, November 16. In defiance of the Health Department’s ban on children under 10 years of age attending schools during the present scarlet fever epidemic, the Linwood Avenue School Committee has reopened the whole school and protested to the Minister of Education against what they term " hide-bound red tapeism and departmental government.” While realising that schools now suffering from the epidemic should be closed, the committee considers it unfair that schools which have already suffered should be closed also. It is expected that the Health Department will apply for an injunction to close the school.
