Not for many years has the Ocean Beach been in such an excellent condition as it is at the present time, and from Lawyer’s Head to St. Clair it presents a glorious stretch of sand which could hardly be equalled and certainly not surpassed in any part of the Dominion. That the people of- Dunedin are at last beginning to realise what a wonderful asset they have in their beach was very evident during the week-end, when, attracted by the warm, genial sunshine, some thousands of holiday-makers journeyed by tram and bus to'St. Hilda and St. Clair, and thronged the sands throughout the day. Despite the fact that there is still a slight nip in the water, the surf, which was gentle and with an- entire absence of undertow, attracted a large number of bathers, many of whom, as the day progressed, assumed all shades, from a delicate pink to vivid carmine. When the new bathing pavilion now in course of erection at St. Hilda is complete, thus supplying the facilities at present enjoyed by St. Clair, the Ocean Beach should become one of the most popular bathing resorts in New Zealand.
