At the Port Chalmers Council meeting last week a heated discussion took place in connection with a motion by the Mayor (Mr T. Anderson) in respect to tenders being called for all council work. The Mayor said it did not apply to work done recently to a cottage at the gasworks. Exception was taken to the latter statement, and the discussion ended with an amendment being carried expressing regret that the Mayor had interfered with the General Committee in carrying out \Vork which the council had authorised the committee to do.
