ARRIVAL OF NEW MACHINES. HIGH-POWERED GLOSTER GREBES. CHRISTCHURCH, September 22. The number of machines at the Wigram t Todrome has been brought up to 19 by the arrival of two new Gloster Grebe single-seater fighter aeroplanes. Each of the new machines is fitted with one 2l horse-power radial air-cooled Arni-strong-Siddeley “ Jaguar ” engine, and is capable of a speed of rather more than 150 miles an hour. The new machines have not been assembled yet. The first Grebe to arrive at the Wigram aerodrome was purchased as the result of a gift of £2500 made by Sir Henry Wigram. This machine arrived in March last, and on account of extraordinary speed has created very great interest among the public. A Fairey lIIF two-seater general purpose aeroplane, with a Napier “ Lion ” engine, is on order for the Wigram aerodrome. and is expected to arrive before tjie end of the year. The two Moth machines which are to be used for elementary training are also due to arrive this year.
