THE PETONE PLANT.
GENERAL MOTORS’ CONTRIBUTION TO NEW ZEALAND INDUSTRY. On page 46 of our illustrated section appears an interesting view of the plant at Petone where General Motors, New Zealand, Ltd.. fully assemble their Chevrolet, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, and Buick four-door sedan models. In connection with this operation there are some interesting facts and figures disclosing the economic importance of this secondary industry to the Dominion. The approximate number of employees is 320. The annual pay-roll is £82,885. while purchases of material from local supplies exceeds £40,000 yearly. An example of what New Zealand assembly means in the light of the above figures is shown by the fact that out of the total list price for a Chevrolet sedan only £9B. is paid out overseas for material necessary to complete up the ear.
