FENDER TO ACCOMPANY THE LONDON, August 29. The Star has engaged Fender to accompany the English cricketers and report on all matches in Australia. The Marylebone Club has issued an official statement that the composition of the team for Australia has been confirmed. Geary will be included, -provided an operation on his arm is successful and the medical certificate warrants this conclusion. Jupp has accepted an invitation to join the team if a vacancy arises before it sails, subject to his receiving reasonable notice. G. Geary (Leicestershire), who is 35 years of age, represented England in the last series of test matches against Australia, taking three wickets at an average cost of 63 runs. In the 1927 season he took 71 wickets at a cost of 18.12 runs apiece, and was fourth in the batting list with an average of 30.76, FENDER’S FINE BOWLING. LONDON, September 1. G. Geary has received an official invitation from the Marylebone Club today to join the team for Australia. Geary’s remarkable slip-fielding in the final test on the Oval, when Australia lost the ashes, will long be remembered. He is a most useful all-rounder, who should be valuable in Australia, provided he is fit. There seems every possibility that he will replace Jupp, who is standing by in readiness in case of eventualities. In view of the fact that F. G. IL Fender is reported to be going to Australia at the time of the tests in a private capacity, it is interesting to recall that there is a considerable volume of opinion in England in favour of his inclusion in the team. Fender to-day captured his hundredth wicket this season.

ENGLISH TEAM IN WEST INDIES. LONDON, September 1. In their first innings West Indies scored 212. Freeman took six wickets for 87. The visitors had lost two wickets for 114 runs, when stumps were drawn.
