MINISTER OF FINANCE.
WARM TRIBUTE FROM H’S “ CHIEF.” WELLINGTON, August 23. A warm tribute was paid to the Minister of Finance (Mr W. D. Stewart) by the Prime Minister (Mr J. G. Coates) in his address before the Dominion Conference of the New Zealand Political Reform League. “ I know of no such man who more nearly represents an autocrat than our Minister of Finance,” Mr Coates declared. “ Whatever is done or about to be done he knows about it. • He has to find the money. While. I do not want to throw bouquets at him or to suggest—to use his own term —that he is the bud of a flower —-I do say that he is the right man in the right place, and that he has done his best to inspire.- confidence and to show that the position of the country is not nearly so as some of our candid'critics would: have us believe?'
