“ Opportunity makes the thief,” as an Auckland lady found to her cost in a city drapery store last Friday (relates the Auckland Star). She had bought a pair of pyjamas, and desiring to pay for them, handed them, together with a £1 note, to a man without a hat, whom she took to be one of the shop assistants. That was the last she saw of either her money or the parcel. After waiting some time for the man to return, she made anxious inquiries, only to find that she had been duped. It was a particularly mean type of theft.
