GOLF

ROSE BAY TOURNAMENT.

DOMINION CHAMPION BEATEN. SYDNEY, August 1.

The Ladies’ Golf Cup competition on the Rose Bay links opened in glorious weather. The two Victorian players, Miss Mona Macleod (Australian champion) and Mrs Alex. Russell, gave fine exhibitions, this pair leading at the end of the first round of the competition, which was 36 holes stroke play on scratch.

Miss Oliver Kay, the New Zealand eljampion, who created great interest, hardly did herself justice on the first day, but some of her short approaches were very fine. Miss Macleod and Mrs Russell at the end of the first round were each 84 and Miss Kay 93. Mrs Russell triumphed at the end of the second day, winning the cup with 84, 80—164; Miss Macleod was second with 84, 82—166; and Mrs Morgan (New South Wales) third with 87, 84—171. Miss Kay’s score was 93, 83—176. Aliss Kay played a vastly improved- game owing tc greater familiarity with the links. Her long hitting caused admiration, and her approaching was much more accurate than on the first day. She, however, found the light different from New Zealand.

Miss Payton (Rotorua) scored 93, 91 —184, and Miss Snodgrass (New Zealand) 102, 96—198.
