The fact that motor traction is superseding that of horses for heavy carting was evidenced at a sale of a contractor’s plant at Gisborne recently (says an exchange). Some block drays, which were valued at £5O; could not find bidders at as low a price as £lO. That horses were still in fair demand, probably for farm work, was shown when 10 draughts sold from £25 to £35. These were of a good type ami attracted a great deal of attention. Harness and implements sold fairly well. Several prominent New Zealand troul fishermen recently suggested that, in line with the big game fishing at Russell, a film be taken of trout fishing in Taupo Lake and rivers for publicity abroad (says the Dominion). It was considered, by the fishermen that a film depicting the anglers plying'their rods and their catches w.ould be an invaluable advertisement to the fine sport to be had at Taupo. Inquiry made of the Acting Minister of Internal Affairs (Sir Maui Pomare) shows that a film was “ shot ” at Taupo some time ago, and, as soon ao the new laboratory arrangements of the PublicityDepartment have been completed, this film will be released for wide circulation.
