Speaking to a Nelson Mail representative, Mr C. Nash, of the National Tobacco Company, said the drying of tobacco leaf was proceeding satisfactorily. Already his company had received 350 bales from the Nelson district this season. A considerable quantity of leaf had been finished off in the hop kilns after the colour had appeared on the leaf. The season, although an unusual one, had not been without its good points, and Mr Nash considers that the average return will be about £9O to £lOO an acre.
