TAIERI RIVER TRUST.

The monthly meeting of the Taieri River Trust was held at Mosgiel on May ?• ¥, r T ’ Sadd presided, and Messrs W. Blackie, R. A. Kempshell, A. Moore C. F. Evans, W. Marshall, Wyllie, and F. Johnson were present. CORRESPONDENCE. Alexander F. Doull wrote drawing attention to the necessity of lowering the Lee Crek pumping mark about loin.—lt was decided that the level of Lee Creek be reduced to the same level as other drains; the control to be left with the inspector and member for the district. Mrs Emma Harris wrote asking that the drainage crossing at the road at Otokia be repaired, as it was flooding.— Received. Messrs Sievwright, James. and Nichol wrote on behalf of James Brown (Henley) regarding the taxation of the Borrow pits area.—Mr Evans moved, and Mr Moore seconded, that the Borrow pit area be excluded from the rating area. —Mr Marshall moved as an and Mr Johnson seconded, “That all borrow pits be included in the rating area." —The amendment was carried, Messrs Blackie, Wyllie, and Sadd, in addition to the mover and seconder, voting for it. The Local Bodies’ Loans Board advised that money was available for certain loans at 5f per cent., plus brokerage of 1 per cent., or such sum as may be agreed upon. —Received. A discussion took place on the banking of Duck Creek, and it was decided that the spoil be thrown out on the fence side, and that gaps be left at intervals to allow water to flow in; and that at Sherman’s it be banked on both sides.—An amendment moved by Messrs Kempshell and Marshall, that it be banked on both sides and boxed from top to bottom, was lost. A discussion arose on the advisability of raising the protective bank at Otokia, and after a lengthy discussion it was decided to favour the suggestion that four chains of the bank from the railway bridge at Otokia be raised 2ft, and that a request be made to the Public Works Department to discuss this with the Railways Department. Mr P. Bathgate requested that something should be done to the drain on hij property.—lt was decided-that the inspector should look into the matter and act. . - GENERAL. An extra employee was arranged for till further notice, so that the Loch Katrine drain might receive attention. At the conclusion of the business Mr Blackie moved a vote of thanks to Mr Sadd for his work on behalf of the trust during the clerk's absence through illness.—Mr Kempshell seconded the motion. —The motion was carried and suitably acknowledged by Mr Sadd.
