A visitor from England who was in Timaru recently and who is on a motor tour of New Zealand, said he had been given the impression, before leaving Home, that New Zealand roads were practically impassable for motor cars (says an exchange). Permits to erect new building and to alter and add to old ones were issued to the value of only £53,785 last month, the total being £113,668 lower than that for April of last year.
