Dairy farmers are sometimes puzzled by variations in yield or test from day to day. Professor Riddet, at Alassey College, is investigating this problem (states a northern exchange). Air Q. Donald announced this fact in a report to the Research Council. He also stated that the statistical investigations into the records of the Group Herd-testing Association were now well usder way, and gave promise of some interetsing results. A preliminary survey of the problems of heat utilisation in dairy factories had been made, and further experiments would need to be carried out in order to devise means of power and fuel economy. Absent-mindedness is not a trait solely possessed by curates if the experience of a Wanganui citizen may be taken as an indication (says the Chronicle). He had it impressed cn him that he must meet tire mail train at Aramoho in order to welcome his mother-in-law. This was of course an important mission, and it so weighed on his mind that he took special * pains to remember during the morning. Shortly before midday he hailed a taxi and arrived at Aramoho Station in ample time. But it was not till he saw the train entering the station from the northern end that he realised that it was the mail train from Wellington that he was supposed to meet —and that did not arrive till after 3 p.m.
