Auckland sportsmen who visited the Kawliia district for the opening of the season report that pheasants were plentiful, but the birds were very wild, and good “ bags ” were the exception and not the rule. Some of the best shooting was procured along the Rangitoto Range, although the birds quickly left the clearings for the bush.
