ARBITRATION COURT.

LIFTMEN AND CLEANERS’ UNION. AUCKLAND. May 4. The Arbitration Court is considering an application by the Liftmen and Cleaners’ Union for a award reducing the hours of liftmen from 48 to 44, and increasing their wages from £3 IQs to £4 Is; increasing cleaners wages from £4 Is to £4 5s ; and the wages of caretakers from £4 10s to £4 15s ( and asking that the charge for rent when living on premises be eliminated. For female workers £2 10s per week is asked. The employers' representative said that the difficulty was in dissimilarity of the work in different buildings. In some cases 48 hours a week was absolutely essential. The court reserved its decision.
