An indication, as far as one labour agency in Christchurch is concerned, that there has been a greater demand for country workers this year as compared ■with last, is given by the fact that for this year so far (four months) jobs were found for 220 men, as compared with jobs for 175 men for the whole of last year. This April 41 men were placed as compared with 18 in April, 1927. It is reported that ploughmen, cowboys, and that class of country labourer is much more in demand this year than last year. A 1 falling off in the demand for married couples is a noteworthy feature of this year
