The forty-seventh anniversary of the wreck of the steamer Tararua, on a reef off Waipapa Point, Foveaux Strait, while on her way from Dunedin to Bluff, fell on Sqnday week last. This disaster, which is the most memorable wreck that has taken place on the coast of the South Island, was attended’’by the loss of 130 lives, 110 passengers and 20 members of the crew being drowned. Only 20 lives were saved.
