CAUGHT IN THE ACT.
YOUTHFUL BURGLAR APPREHENDED. COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE. AUCKLAND, April .19. Harold James Samuel Bassett, aged 22, pleaded guilty in the Police Court to a charge of breaking and entering an engineer’s shop in Kitchener street with intent to commit a crime, and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. A constable patrolling Albert Park on Friday night saw the accused loiter suspiciously for a time, and then enter the engineer’s shop. With another constable he followed the accused and arrested the latter, who had in his possession an instrument made to open Yale locks, and also an elggtric torch. The accused, in a said he was a labourer, who had been employed by the Harbour Board for the last four years. He had purchased an old motor car for £lO, and wanted money to complete the payment of an amount that was overdue on his purchase.
