The large oil painting, entitled “ Cynthia s Birthday, * bv Mr H- Linley Richardson, of Wellington, has been purchased by the oouncil of the Canterbury Art Society for tho permanent collection, from the annual exhibifton of paintings now being held in the Art Gallery, Christchurch. Advice to hand from Sydney indicates that Fred Corby, who dived over the side of the Tahiti • during the Greycliffe disaster and rescued various persons, was presented by one. of the rescued women in Sydney with, a gbld wristlet watch. Mr Corby has been awarded the Royal Humane Society’s silver medal, and it will be presented to him on arrival in Sydney next month;-*
