A story was recently told by a South Island farmer concerning a visit by him to another province (relates the Southland Times). While there he called at a farm owned by two brothers with whom he had a long conversation. He arrived shortly before lunch time, and after he had been talking for some time one of the brothers went inside, as he subsequently learned; for lunch. When the latter hail finished.his meal he returned, and held the fort while the other went in. This anecdote has. a flavour of many similar Scottish stories, but the storyteller—he claims it is true—states that the occurrence did not take place in Southland.
