HOME OWNERS IN AUSTRALIA

QUEENSLAND LEADS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) SYDNEY, March 8. Statistics show that Queensland commands pride of place-in Australia for tho percentage of home owners to householders. This applies both to Queensland as a State and to Brisbane as its capital city. New South Wales occupies the worst, place of th e whole of the States and capital -cities. Sydneysiders, in contrast with the people of the other cities, are not hom e lovers, taking them generally. Home is regarded by a great many of them simply as a place in which to sleep and eat. At the same time, there are a great many who would own their own homes if they were afforded the opportunity. The Government proposes to bring down a: libera] Housing Bill, but -< th e passage of it this year is dependent ' upon the co-ordination of that scheme with the big Federal project, and upon the extent to which the Federal Government is willing to assist New South Wales. The real estate business of Sydney last year represented about £1,009,000, less expenditure than in 1926. The outlook, however, will be materially brightened with the passage of the amending -Fair Rents Bill.
