The de Havfland “ Moth ” light airplane recently brought back from England by Mr Douglas Mill had its first look at Auckland from the air on Sunday week. The machine was taken out t® Tainaki Heights early in the morning for the initial flight over the city, a flight of one hour and a-half was made, during which time Mr Mill, who was at the joystick, 'had a good look at the harbour, tho city, and the suburbs, while' he also, went and closely examined the site for the combined air base at Hobsonville. He stated subsequently that the Moth behaved splendidly. . A party of approximately 200 mutton birders left Invercargill on Wednesday for the mutton bird islands (states the Southland Times). As fine weather has prevailed for some time, the. season which commences on April 1 promises to be a record One, and the birds al e reported to Ibe in excellent condition. Several vessels have been chartered to carry the “birders” to the islands.
