PLUNKET SOCIETY.

The monthly meeting of the committee of the New Zealand Society for tho Health of Women and Children was held in the Plunket office on Friday, and was attended by Mrs Johnstone (in the chair), Lady Allen, Mesdames J. M’George, T K. Sidey, G. R. Ritchie, Wilson Williams, Mandeno, Cleghorn, Arundel’, C'airney, Carr, J. C. M’George. Miss Reid and tho secretary. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Taverner, Cun. inghame, Solomon, John W’atson. and Sister Nora.

The Treasurer presented a statement of the society’s finances to date, and accounts were passed for payment. Mrs J. A. Johnstone was unanimously granted leave of absence during her absence from New Zealand, the members of tho committee expressing the hope that she '''Omd, have a very enjoyable trip to ttie Old Country. Miss Jean Burt was unanimously granted indefinite leave of absence from the committee.

It, was decided to hold a jumble sale in April in aid ol the society’s funds. Ihe Matron of the Karitane-Harris Hospital reported as follows for the month of February;—Number of patients admitted during the month. 15 mothers, 23 babies, , total 38; discharged, 16 mothers, 21 babies, total 37; largest number in residence at any time, five mothers, 23 babies, total 28; number in residence on February 29, 1 mother, 20 babies, total 21. Sources of admission—Patients were admitted from Beaumont, Mosgiel, Dunback Gisborne, Owaka. Totara ami Seacliff. Gifts were received from Mrs Orbell sen., and Miss Fitzgibbon. There were 105 visitors during the month. The Plunket Nurse for Caversham district and outstations (north line), reported as follows for month of February:—Babies on the list, 216; babies breast-fed (including partly), 40; new cases for the month (babies only), 8; babies breast fed (including partly, new cases), 5; visits paid t‘> Plunket Rooms, Stuart street, from sversham: Mothers 39, babies 33, older children B;—total 80: visits paid to Plunket Rooms at outstations: —Mothers 83, babies 77, older children 17;—total 177.
