An. amusing interlude occurred last week in the Police Court at Bluff (says the Southland Daily News). A resident appeared before the Bench for having an unregistered dog in his possession. Defendant pleaded that the dog was not a dog.' being only in the puppy stage, and was therefore not liable for registration. A discussion ensued upon how to tell a dog’s age. Expert opinions' on the matter were heard from unexpected quarters, tho justices finally awarding the decision to the defendant by dismissing the case. Motorists everyhere are surprised at the speed limits fixed in the new motor regulations. One Wanganui man in conversation with a Chronicle representative on Tuesday said: “ A speed limit of 35 miles an hour is absurd. Not many motorists travel at a greater pace for any length of time, but there arc a number who, for some reason or other, do travel at a considerable speed, if only for a short distance. And who will enforce tho law? Will there be motor cycle police as there are m America? As.far as I can see,” he continued, “ tho only wav to control the speed of motor vehicles is to fix governors on every machine as it enters the country.”
