An important deposit of tangerine clay has been found by Mr H. Hill, of Napier, in the Taupo district (reports the Hawke’s Bay Tribune). The discovery is. likely to prove of great commercial value.. Legislation, was passed ''last session providing that, upon receipt of a petition signed by a certain majority of those engaged in- selling. tobacco as a principal business, regulations would be gazetted bringing all other shops selling tobacco as a sideliineMnto lino with tobacconists proper as regard closing hours. Such a pet-itoin has. now been signed by nearly all die tobacconists and presented to the Minister concerned. When the new regulations are gazetted owners of restaurants, fruit shops, etc., will be required to close their premises altogether after the regular shopping hours or else to cease the sale of tobacco and cigarette*.
