NATIONAL CONFERENCE. APPOINTMENT OF DELEGATES. WELLINGTON, March 9. Most of the interests to be represented at the National Industrial Conference which is to be opened at the Parliamentary Buildings on March 27 have now. appointed their delegates. In addition: to the Parliamentary Committee, there will be present at the conference 25 mem-, bers representing employers, 25 members representing employees, four economists, a representative of the banking and financial interests, and departmental repre-. sentatives. The following delegates have 1 been appointed:—* New Zealand Farmers’ Union.—Mr W.. J. Polson (president, Fordell), Captain F. Colbeck (Morrinsville, Auckland), Mr R. 8. Chadwick (Dannevirke), Mr W. W. Mulholland (Darfield, Canterbury), Mr J. Carr (Methven, Canterbury). National Dairy* Association.—Mr A. Morton (Egmont Village). Mr J. G. Brechin (Pahiatua), Mr A. Sterling (Hamilton). Mr J. Fisher (Otautau). and Mr H. Middleton (president of the South Island Dairy Association). These representatives of the dairy farmers are considering the matter daily, and will probably meet for a two or three days’ conference to discuss the problem from all angles prior to the national conference. in order to have definite proposals to lay before it. Sheep Farmers. —Messrs H. D. Acland (Christchurch). W. H. Nicholson (Christchurch), R.D. M. Morton (Tai Tapu). J. S. Jessep VZairoa), and either C. H. Williams or W. T. Sheratt (Gisborne). Economists.—Professor B. Murphy (Wellington), Professor A. M. Tocker (Canterbury), Professor Fie,her (Dunedin), and Professor 11. Belshaw (Auckland). The chambers of commerce are to have two representatives, of whom Mr D. J. M’Gowan (president) will be one. and the other will be appointed upon the- return of the secretary (Mr C. M. Bowden) from Australia. Following the announcement that the manufacturers’ associations would be allowed three delegates, the Government wae asked to grant one more in order to permit of one being elected from each centre, probably the president hi each instance. The Government declined to increase the representation, and the final selection will be made at a meeting of the executive of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation in Wellington on March 21. The four presidents are Messrs T. Somerville (Dunedin). T. J. Burton (Wellington), A. W. Beavan (Christchurch), and J. A. C. Allum (Auckland). The conference called by’ the Employers’ Federation is to be held on March 20 to consider the order of reference for the national conference, at which five representatives will he appointed. The employees’ delegates have alreadybeen announced.
