CONGREGATIONALISM.
SOUTH ISLAND DULL. CHRISTCHURCH, March 8. At the Congregational Union Assembly to-day. the Moderator (the Rev, Harry Johnson) reported that the activities in the North Island indicated very real improvement, but that in the south affairs were inclined to be dull. He suggested that a commission be appointed to consider the position in the South Island. The Rev. W. Saunders said the source of much inefficiency was the lack of a definite period of tenure in ministerial settlement.. Churches should be assured that a minister would be prepared to give a fair term of service. At the afternoon session reports were received from the Auckland, Wellington. Canterbury, and Otago districts, the lastnamed alone failing to strike an optimistic note.
