FAILURE TO ENROL.

WARNING TO ELECTORS. AUCKLAND, March 2. “I think this is the first time I have to inflict a penalty for an offence of this kind,” remarked Mr W. R. M’Kean, S.Alin the Police Court, when William Janies Dilworth admitted having failed to enrol as an elector of the Roskill electorate in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act. The prosecution was brought by the registrar of electors. It was stated in the information that the defendant had neglected to enrol for a month after be was bound to do so byreason of residential qualification. Defendant said he fully intended to enrol, although he had waited to do so until he took up his permanent residence. He was now living in Mount Eden, and ho intended shortly to remove to the Parnell electorate. The Magistrate said he would be bound to convict, as the defendant had pleaded guilty. The ease would probably serve as a warning to others. In the circumstances the defendant would be lined 2s 6d, with, costs (10s).
