OTAGO EXPANSION LEAGUE.

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. The monthly meeting of the Executive Committee of the Otago Expansion League was held on Tuesday, Mr S. B. Macdonald (president) presiding, the other members present being Messrs L. D. Ritchie, R. S. Black, J. W. Munro, G. J. Errington, J. Inglis Wright, Charles Todd, E. Tamblyn, and J Y. Love. Correspondence in connection with irrigation problems in Central Otago was considered. The executive approved of tiie action of the president in connection with the approaching visit of the Prime Minister, and stressed the league’s viewpoint that the irrigation had been and would continue to be of vital importance to the welfare of the Central area, and that requests should be made to the Prime Minister for an inquiry into tlie grievances and complaints voiced by the settlers.

Mr O. J. Ilawken (Minister of Agriculture) wrote in reply to the request that the forestry delegates visiting the Dominion in September should not omit Otago and Southland from their itinerary. He assured the league that the detailed journey of these visitors had not been arranged and that the claims of the southern provinces would not be overlooked. A similar assurance was received from the Prime Minister (Mr J. G. Coates). Mr W. Downie Stewart, and Mr W. Nosworthy, The secretary was instructed to communicate with the Queenstown Progressive League on the subject of week-end excursions and attractions that might he offered on suitable dates in tlie lakeside town.

The “ Back to Dunedin Week ” was discussed, and delegates will attend a meeting called by the Otago Employers’ Association.

In connecetion with a letter received from the Green Island Borough Council, the secretary was instructed to communicate with the Railway Board and endeavour to secure its assistance in the matter of the railway crossing within the borough. Copies of letters received from the Forestry Department were ordered to be forwarded to the Pembroke Domain Board for its information.
