What was characterised as the “ disgraceful state ” of the packing of tornados and fruit by certain growers, was referred to on Tuesday evening at a meeting of fruit, tomato growers, and retailers in Christchurch, and it was decided to hold the matter over until the next meetings of the growers’ associations and in the meantime advise the members of the circumstances (says the Press). “ There used to be only one row of tomatoes in the case that were not too good,” said 'he chairman, Mr A. Borrows. “But now, there are two rows.”—(Laughter.) “ Yes, it has its humorous side, but there is the other side also.”
