CENTRAL OTAGO ITINERARY. The Prime Minister (Mr Coates) and the Minister of Public Works (Mr K. S. < Williams) left for Central Otago yester- * day. Their programme for the next three days is as follows: — Tuesday.—9 a.fn.. Visits of inpection, via Ophir, to Chatto Creek and Springvale; 1 p.tn., Clyde (luncheon); 2, Clyde (deputations from Vincent County Council) ; 3, leave Clyde, via Earnscleugh, for an inspection Galloway Flat; 6, Alexandra (dinner); 8, Alexandra (meeting) and stay overnight. Wednesday.—B a.m.. Leave Alexandra; 9, arrive Cromwell (deputations Ripponvale); 10, leave Cromwell; 11, Tarras (deputations); 11.30. leave Tarras for Hawea; noon, Pembroke (lunch); 2.30, arrive Arrowtown (deputations); 3.30, leave Arrowtown; 4, Queenstown (deputations and stay overnight). Thursday.—Leave Queenstown, en route to Kingston. Lumsden, and Invercargill.

Riverton is suffering from a plague of rats (reports the Western Star). These increased very much during the fine weather, and with the approach of the colder season they are invading the buildings. With the appearance of rats the mice have had to quit. One resident who makes a point of keeping down rats had to confess that his dwelling was getting infested. In two days he trapped three which were of a large size, and were just the sort that would commit pounds’ worth of if left undisturbed.-
