THE WEEK’S NEWS. UPPER NEVIS COMPANY. Mr S. C- Fache, general manager and drcdgemaster cf The Upper Nevis Dredging Company, Limited, reports as follows : —A return of’ 158 ounces for 220 hours has been Becured. The water is slack. Otherwise everything is satisfactory. DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE. Friday Afternoon. Business has been quiet on the Stock Exchange during the past week. Bank of Australasias have increased in value, and early in the week a parcel changed hands at £l4 19s. They are still in demand at that price, but there are no immediate sellers. Bank of New Zealands are also a shade firmer, with inquiry at 595. Commercials have also advanced in value. Buyers are prepared to give 275. Bd, but sellers will not accept less than 28s. "" Business has been reported in E.S. and A. Banks at £8 Is 6d. Unions have eased. N.Z. Breweries shares are practically unchanged, with a buyer at 41s 6d. Staples have been turned over at 37s 3d. Inquiry for National Insurances is slightly easier, as is the case with New Zealands.

South British have been dealt in at 58s, and are now wanted at 57s 9d, with a seller at 58s 6d. Ordinary Huddart, Parkers have only recently been in demand. Buyers’ offer has improved during the Jast couple of days, however, and 48s 9d is the quotation.

Among ' coal shares Pukemiros are wanted at 60s, and Taupiris have a buyer at 255.

Westlands are easier, and can be obtained at 31s 3d, but buyers are not prepared to give more than 30s 3d. Inquiry for paid-up Refrigeratings has firmed to 15s 3d, sellers’ quotations leaving a margin of 4d. No better offer than 8s 9d is made for Auckland Amusement Parks, which can be had at Ils. Both the old and new issues of Milburn Eime and Cements are better. . Buyers’ quotation for the old shares has increased to 32s 9d, and a premium of 9s 3d is offered for the new issue. Holders, however, are reticent. Kawaraus have been placed at 6d, and the closing quotations were 5d (buyer) and 7d (seller). ■Waihis are wanted at 9s 9d. Electrolytic Zincs are ex dividend. Buyers’ quotations are 31s 6d for the preference and 30s 3d for the ordinary ehares.

Upper Nevis shares have gradually increased in value. Buyers, are now prepared to give 20s 3d, sellers asking 21s 9d. Five and a-half per cent.
