Burnside. January 18. Fat Cattle.—About 284 head were yarded, comprising a few pens of prime heavy bullocks and a good proportion of medium quality, with a fair number of prime cows and heifers. The quality all round was fairly good. Owing to the large yarding prices from the commencement of' the auction were back about £1 a head on last week’s rates, and there was a further noticeable decline, towards the end of the sale. Fat Sheep.—A medium yarding of 1957 was penned comprising a good percentage of ewes. Ihe quality, taken all over, was much better than was forwarded for last week s fixture. Although there were not a great many pens of prime wethers forward, competition was not at any time keen, ana values for heavy wethers " receded from 2s to 3s a head on last week’s puces, but there was not such a decided diop on ewes, and sheep of this class can be quoted down about Is. Freezing buyers were operating for light wethers and ewes hence the regularity of the market for light sheep.
