SAFETY ZONE COLLISION.

CHRISTCHURCH. August 19.

How George Alexander Low, homeward bound from a dance at 2 a.m. to-day, had collided with the safety zone in Cathedral square was revealed at the Magistrates Court before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., this morning. Low was charged with being intoxicated while in charge of a motor car and with failing to comply with the terms of his probation. Senior Sergeant Martin said that the accused had previously been convicted of speeding. “I have seen nothing of his conduct to warrant any action being taken, but Imust say that I have an idea that he sails prettv close to the wind.” declared Mr W. H. Darbv, the probation officer. “I do not think you will drive a car for some time to come,” said the Magistrate to the accused. “It is my living,” replied the accused. On the present charge Low was convicted and fined £5. in default one month’s imprisonment. His license was cancelled and he was prohibited from obtaining a further one for three years from April 1, 1928. He was convicted on the second charge and released on his former probation. He was- allowed seven days in which to pay the amount of his fine.
