“If boxing at Newcastle Stadium is not made cleaner by adhering strictly to the Marquis of Queensberry rules, steps will be taken by the police to stop contests being held.” Inspector Ramsay, of the Newcastle police, has issued this warning. “It is not boxing,” he added. “It is now a survival of the fittest. We are fed up with it.” Referring to infringement of rules, he added: “Both Superintendent Childs and I are of the opinion that boxing is slipping in Newcastle district.”
